Contact - Synopsis

Part I: Swinging

A forest glade, 1767

Inspired by an 18th-century painting by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Swinging is set in a bucolic forest clearing, where a beautiful young woman soars on a swing while two men look on - one, the young woman's Aristocratic lover, the other, the Aristocrat's humble servant.  In Stroman and Weidman's version, the  Rodgers & Hart song "My Heart Stood Still", as recorded by jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli, provides the aural bed for this sexy and surprising romp in the French countryside.

Part II: Did You Move?

An Italian restaurant, Queens, 1954

Did You Move? takes place in 1954 in The Café Vesuvio, an Italian restaurant in Queens, New York.  It's buffet night, and when our soft-spoken heroine arrives for dinner with her anything but soft-spoken husband, she steps into a romantic world of Tchaikovsky, Greig, and Bizet, which suddenly seems to offer her the tantalizing but terrifying possibility of changing her life.

Part III: Contact

New York City, Today

Set in present-day New York, Contact is the story of Michael Wiley, a successful advertising executive in his 40s who is facing a devastating and bewildering mid-life crises.  At the end of his rope, he dives into a wild, high stakes adventure in a mysterious downtown dance club where he struggles with the sudden, unexpected possibilities of transformation and salvation.
