Improv is a great way to strengthen acting skills, become more resilient, stay in the moment and think fast on your feet. This class explores what it takes to successfully build a series of scenes with nothing but a one word suggestion and the support of your fellow performers. We’ll explore character work, object work, recognizing themes and patterns. A focus will be placed on finding what’s funny about a scene instead of manufacturing it. Teacher Christine Cuddy is a former actor/writer/instructor at both Improv Asylum and ImprovBoston. For two years, she served as the head writer for Banned In Boston, an annual performance starring local Boston celebrities benefitting Urban Improv. At NSMT, we believe a modern day actor should have a toolbox filled with true and steadfast techniques and methods used on the stage. Our conservatory style program concentrates on providing students the necessary tools to become a triple threat and well-rounded actor/actress. Students will hone their skills in acting, singing and dancing, while engaging with their peers, building on the areas critical to their development such as: critical thinking, collaboration, public speaking, time management and social development. We also believe that theatre should be accessible to any student who chooses to participate and encourage them to begin their artistic journey, regardless of their level of experience.
