Short Form Improv for the Stage
Instructor: Brett Bovio
Dates: Wednesdays, 7pm - 9pm, January 8th - March 12th
Cost: $250 (10 classes in the session)

This class is dedicated to helping students master short-form improv with the ultimate goal of one day performing live on stage. We’ll focus on essential improv skills like "Yes, And," projecting, cheating forward, teamwork, call backs, and making each other look awesome. Through a series of exercises, students will sharpen their ability to stay present, think fast on their feet, and collaborate seamlessly with others.
In addition to building scenes from a single word or location, students will learn a variety of short-form improv games—including audience participation games, guessing games, and line games—designed to engage both the performers and the audience. These games are key to creating dynamic, interactive performances that offer variety.
The class will also cover how to recognize themes and patterns, develop strong characters, and discover the natural humor in each scene rather than forcing it. This is the perfect class for students with prior improv experience who want to elevate their skills and eventually perform in front of a live audience.

At NSMT, we believe a modern day actor should have a toolbox filled with true and steadfast techniques and methods used on the stage. Our conservatory style program concentrates on providing students the necessary tools to become a triple threat and well-rounded actor/actress. Students will hone their skills in acting, singing and dancing, while engaging with their peers, building on the areas critical to their development such as: critical thinking, collaboration, public speaking, time management and social development. We also believe that theatre should be accessible to any student who chooses to participate and encourage them to begin their artistic journey, regardless of their level of experience.
